Contents of this File --------------------------- 1. Purpose of Update 2. Installing the Update 3. Known Bugs 4. Further Updates 5. Support 1. Purpose of Update ----------------------- This update is suitable for customers who use an earlier version of Pearson's Crystal Data software (PCD.EXE, software versions 1.5 or 1.5a) where some bugs in the retrieval program as well as in the database files have been repaired. IMPORTANT: SOFTWARE UPDATE 1.5a MUST HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BEFORE YOU INSTALL THIS UPDATE 1.5b! 2. Installing the Update ------------------------------- Before you install this Pearson's Crystal Data Update, please make sure that you do NOT uninstall the previous version before updating, since this will remove several important files as well as your licence file from your PC! If you have already done so, you have to reinstall the previous version of Pearson's Crystal Data again from your CDs. This update requires a previous software and database update to be installed on your computer. To check, if the previous update already has been installed, run the Pearson's Crystal Data software and open the "Software info" dialog using the corresponding command from the "Help" menu. The CD-ROM software version displayed should be "Version 1.5a". If it is still "Version 1.5", you first have to download the file "PCD_update15a.exe" from the webpage http://www.crystalimpact.com/pcd/update.htm and install that update. For more details, please read the "Update15a.txt" of that installation. If your current software version is (already) version 1.5a, please perform the following steps: a) If you have not already done so, please download the file "PCD_update15b.exe" from the webpage http://www.crystalimpact.com/pcd/update.htm. b) If Pearson's Crystal Data software is running, please close it. c) Double-click on the file "PCD_update15b.exe" you have downloaded from the webpage. The WinZip self-extractor will open and automatically start the "Crystal Impact Update Installer". d) After the installation you will be prompted to close all open PCD windows. (There should be no such windows when you followed step b.) e) Finally the PCD software will be started in order to check, if the update has been successfull. You can check whether the update was successful by selecting "Software info..." from the "Help" menu. The CD-ROM software version displayed should be "Version 1.5b". 3. Known Bugs ---------------- A list of all currently known software bugs is available on: http://www.crystalimpact.com/pcd/bugs.htm This list is frequently updated. If you encounter a software bug that is not yet described here, please send an e-mail describing your problem to: pcd-support@crystalimpact.com (See also chapter 5 of this file.) 4. Further Updates --------------------- If bugs have been encountered by Pearson's Crystal Data (PCD) users, bug fixes of the PCD software will be released from time to time. Please visit the PCD Update Page frequently at: http://www.crystalimpact.com/pcd/update.htm Updates of the PCD data are available at annual rates. 5. Support ---------- i. Software In case of trouble when using PCD software, please pay attention to the following hints: - If you do not know how to operate in a dialog window, carefully read all information in the window. Make sure that you understand the meaning of the buttons, input fields, lists, etc. Look at the way several functions are grouped into frames and read the frame titles, too. - Press the F1 key and examine the help text. Check the help jumps, too, which are green blue (or purple, if already visited; default Internet Browser settings). - Look for appropriate keywords in the Help Index, and look for any related text on the Help Find tab. - If you do not know how a command in a pulldown menu operates, press the F1 key when the corresponding command is highlighted. This will open the help page for this command, where you can continue as mentioned above. - If you do not find a command, use the Help Index (Index tab on the PCD Application Help window) to get an alphabetic list of search items. Also visit the PCD Update Page at http://www.crystalimpact.com/pcd/update.htm. This page offers the latest software patches. If this page does not give you an answer, or if the trouble is caused by an error in the software (a "bug"), contact the software developer Crystal Impact. Please describe how the bug can be reproduced as detailed as possible, and attach possibly required files! The easiest way to do this is to select the "Send queries..." command in the "Help" menu. In the dialog that opens, select "Software query". A new e-mail window will open in which you can now enter a detailed description of the problem or error you have encountered. Finally, send the e-mail as usual (e.g. by pressing the "Send" button). Alternatively, send an e-mail to: pcd-support@crystalimpact.com Or - if you are not connected to the Internet - send a fax to: ++49-228-9813644 Or write to: Crystal Impact GbR Kreuzherrenstrasse 102 D-53227 Bonn Germany ii. Data If you have questions or found errors in the Pearson's Crystal Data *data* (not the PCD software itself!), please contact the editor team by selecting the "Send queries..." command in the "Help" menu. In the dialog that opens, select "Data query". A new e-mail window will open where you can now enter a detailed description of the problem or error you have encountered. Finally, send the e-mail as usual (e.g. by pressing the "Send" button).
